The Tailpiece

Tailpieces come in a variety of styles Kershner, Paramount, Waverly etc., tailpieces are a means of attaching the strings to the banjo and allow you to an extent a means of increasing or decreasing the tension on the head. increasing the tension of the tailpiece produces a much crisper or snappy sounding banjo while decreasing the tension gives the banjo a softer sound.
